The New Year

Posted: January 4, 2016

"And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day" (Genesis 1:31, ESV).

God has given us various rhythms: evening and morning, six days of work and then rest with worship, different seasons with the change of weather, and years to mark time, events, milestones, anniversaries and celebrations. With the beginning of each new rhythm comes the opportunity to evaluate, recalibrate, and start fresh. Jeremiah reminds us of these recurring opportunities which are grounded in the very character of God.

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22, 23, ESV).

I am not much for formal New Year's "resolutions", but I do like to refresh my objectives, set new goals, and ensure that my heart is right moving forward. As we roll up our sleeves for what lies ahead in 2016 let's do so with a clean, confessed heart, and a keen awareness of God's provision and faithfulness to resource us for all that He has in store for us. And with this, we will trust Him.

Partnering together for opportunities and lessons in 2016,

Michael
